Dr. Ingo Mierswa is the founder and President of RapidMiner and as such responsible for strategic innovation and execution around the open source machine learning platform. Ingo is an industry-veteran data scientist since starting to develop RapidMiner at the Artificial Intelligence Division of the TU Dortmund University in Germany. Ingo, the scientist, has authored numerous award-winning publications about predictive analytics and big data. Ingo, the entrepreneur, has been leading the company with growth rates of up to 300 percent per year over the first seven years.

Lars Bauerle

As Chief Product Officer, Lars is chartered with the Company’s global product management and strategy. He is responsible for the platform, including market and product strategy, product vision, user experience and customer satisfaction. Lars is a strategic and innovative product leader with 20 years of product and operational experience in enterprise software and analytics/business intelligence markets. Lars holds an MS in Applied Mechanics and a BA in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Dr. Kirk Borne is the Principal Data Scientist and an Executive Advisor at global technology and consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton based in McLean, Virginia USA. In those roles, he focuses on applications of data science, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence across a wide variety of disciplines. He also provides leadership and mentoring to multi-disciplinary teams of data scientists. He previously was Professor of Astrophysics and Computational Science at George Mason University for 12 years, where he taught, advised students, and performed research in the Data Science Bachelors program and the Computational Informatics Doctoral program. Prior to that, he worked 18 years on large data systems for NASA space science programs, including roles as Data Archive Project Scientist for NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and as the contract Program Manager in NASA’s Space Science Data Operations Office. Kirk has a B.S. in Physics from LSU, and a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Caltech. He is a sought-after public speaker globally on data strategy topics. Since 2013, he has been identified as one of the top worldwide social influencers in Big Data and Data Science.

Rodrigo Fuentealba Cartes

Rodrigo Fuentealba Cartes is a software developer and data scientist from Chile. He began developing applications with PostgreSQL in 1998, and adopted Ruby as his main programming language in 2005, just a week after the launch of the Rails framework. His first Machine Learning algorithms were implemented in 2008.

Mr. Fuentealba is the Lead Data Scientist and Senior Open Source Developer at The Pegasus Group, developing projects for fraud detection, crime analysis, geospatial analysis, healthcare, credit risk scoring and predictive maintenance systems with RapidMiner and open source technologies. As for other aspects of his life, Mr. Fuentealba is a self-taught pianist and an amateur photographer.

Michael is active in numerous infrastructure professional organizations and an avid outdoorsman living in the Colorado Rockies.

Sebastian Land is a data scientist by heart, getting in touch with the topic during his study of computer science when joining the artificial intelligence chair at the university of Dortmund as a student assistant. He soon joined there the development team around Ingo Mierswa working on RapidMiner. When the company RapidMiner was founded, he joined it as one of the first employees. He stayed with the company from 2007 to 2015 in various positions as developer, head of sales and head of customer technical services. Over the years he gained a lot of field experience and background knowledge. In 2015 he decided to leave RapidMiner and found Old World Computing, an official RapidMiner partner, specialized in Data Science consulting and training. In the three years he lead several large scale machine learning projects across various industries.

Jose Mejias Miranda

José is a Master Data Scientist and Technologists enabling insights generation and value throughout data science, mentorship, and technology. He has more than 25 years of experience researching, architecting, developing and implementing solutions with the purpose of customer experience, sales, quality, revenue, supply chain, automation and sustainability optimization. He is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Some of his contributions have been presented at corporate technical conferences at national and international levels. Additionally, he holds three patents for his work in many of these areas.

Matt North

Dr. Matt North is a professor in the Information Systems and Technology department at Utah Valley University. His teaching expertise is in database design, development and administration, data analytics, and geographic information systems (GIS). Research areas include data analytics, GIS, and technology pedagogy. He is the author of two books, Life Lessons & Leadership, and Data Mining for the Masses, as well as numerous journal papers, articles, book chapters, and conference presentations. Prior to his work in academia, he worked as a software engineer and risk analyst at eBay, and consulted internationally. An award winning professor and scholar, he is a Fulbright alumnus, and the recipient of the Ben Bauman Award for Excellence, the Gamma Sigma Alpha Outstanding Professor Award and the 2018 UVU Alumni Outstanding Educator Award.

Prior to this, she worked as Solution Advisor at Deloitte and Touché for over two years helping clients in major industrial sectors identify and address technology risks implementing GRC solutions. Pavithra has a blend of technology expertise and data science knowledge, helping data-driven organizations deploy Enterprise Data Science solutions efficiently. She is a data science geek and loves conducting data science sessions.

Joe Rappaport

Joe Rappaport is the Head of HR Data Analytics for Charles River Labs. He has run the numbers for everything from employee engagement to executive compensation to talent sourcing strategies. Before Charles River, Joe worked for State Street Bank. He’s a strategic partner to other leaders within HR and within the business. Joe’s first introduction to machine learning was through natural language processing in his undergraduate research with white collar criminals, applying Industrial/Organization Psychology to study blame externalization. Before data analytics, Joe worked for 6 years in healthcare and recruiting. After automating himself out of a job, Joe now automates machine learning pipelines into dashboards and actionable insights full time to help Human Resources return more value to the business.

With a background in social studies and a history working with people rather than numbers, Joe falls squarely into the mold of the “citizen data scientist.” He’s largely self-taught and owes an incalculable debt to Stack Overflow and a thousand tiny blogs. Ask him about Natural Language Processing, cohort survival studies, clustering and outliers, and GDPR. Originally from San Francisco, Joe now lives in Boston. Outside of work, Joe volunteers in Boston public high schools, plays video games and does ballroom dance.

Philipp Schlunder

Philipp Schlunder, M.Sc., studied physics with a focus on multivariate statistics and astroparticle physics at the TU Dortmund University in Germany. Afterwards he worked as a research assistant, using machine learning to analyze terabytes of data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to classify particle types. During that time, he held classes about statistical data analytics and supervised multiple theses. Therefore, gaining expertise in solving complex real-world problems with machine learning and communicating results in a simple way. Since 2017 he is a data scientist in the research department of RapidMiner focusing on applicability of scientific discoveries to industrial problems and making data science accessible for everyone.

Stanislaw (Stan) Schmal

Fabian Temme

Data Scientist

Dr. Fabian Temme is a data scientist at the research team of RapidMiner. He studied physics at the TU Dortmund University in Germany. In his PhD thesis Fabian applied machine learning methods on a telescope for astroparticle physics that records one terabyte of data a night. He got hands-on experience with classification and regression of time series data, that was highly imbalanced and noisy. Afterwards he joined the R&D team of RapidMiner. Recently Fabian has been involved in the German project FEE and the EU project PRESED, working on time series analysis in the chemical and steel industries. Throughout his study and the work in different research projects, Fabian has acquired a mastery of machine learning methods on industry data.

Brian Tvenstrup

Brian is a dynamic, results-oriented executive who has worked 20+ years at the intersection of strategy, analytics, and information technology. Over his career he has worked across many different industries, including strategy consulting, financial services, healthcare, and consumer marketing. After successfully practicing analytics in both large and small companies, in 2016 he started his own consulting firm, Lindon Ventures, where he helps clients with a wide variety of quantitative analysis needs. Brian studied economics at Princeton University as an undergraduate, then Applied Statistics at Penn State as a graduate student, and he also holds a global MBA from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain. He is a veteran data scientist who has worked with many different analytics platforms and has been a RapidMiner user since 2011. Brian is an active participant in the RapidMiner online community and also offers live online data science training courses using RapidMiner.

Fabian Werner

Fabian studied computer science and mathematics in Darmstadt/Germany. After receiving his Ph.D. in number theory (mathematics) in 2014, he moved to Hamburg where he worked with Opera. He was responsible for the design of a real-time recommender engine for advertisement on mobile devices handling thousands of requests per second. In 2016, he joined Lufthansa Industry Solutions as a Data Science consultant. At the moment his projects focus is on the airline business (in particular Lufthansa Airlines), where he works on different projects regarding the prediction of aircraft and passenger movements.
