Using Facial Recognition Tools to Identify Unnamed Ancestors

Scott Genzer, a data scientist here at RapidMiner, developed a technique using freely available facial recognition tools to identify people in photographs. He’s successfully applied his work to historical photos of the Jewish community from his ancestral town of Mielec, Poland, among others.

In the video below, he offers a detailed demonstration of this technique and explains how it can help break through genealogical brick walls.

This program was presented by the Ackman & Ziff Family Genealogy Institute at the Center for Jewish History.
