MarketWatch: Silicon Valley is a ‘twilight zone’ for women, but it’s shifting

In a speech last week, SEC Chair Mary Jo White called for greater boardroom diversity, which she said has yet to receive “sufficient attention.”

And some of that has to be addressed long before a woman enters corporate America, said Michele Chambers, the new chief operating officer of big data mining company RapidMiner.

Chambers, 52, said a divide between boys and girls begins as early as elementary school, with girls at her son’s school saying they didn’t want to “look smart” in front of the boys when asked why they didn’t join the chess club, despite liking the game.
