Temporal Semantic Analysis of Edison’s patents

By Michael Skinner, Patent Analytics Manager, Intel

This presentation explores why we don’t have 20/20 hindsight when it comes to performing searches in technology areas and proposes a solution.  By analyzing the patents of Thomas Edison, this session showcases how temporal semantic analysis can be used to explore the evolution of technology and studies the patterns of word usage over time.

Michael Skinner is a principal patent analyst working in Intel Legal.  He works to develop Statistical and Textual methods to analyze patents.  Over 30 years working in technology research, development and manufacturing in the electronics field, Michael is currently working to develop novel methods of extracting information from anaplastic* groups of patents.
